City Hall Building
Main Lobby and Customer Service
An open and fresh new look, and barrier free improvements for serving citizens of Sarnia, were the main program requirements for this interior renovation.
The Customer Finance Area improvements comprise four new customer service stations, service office, lighting, and flooring. Existing customer service stations were replaced with two accessible and two elevated ambulatory units.
The functional improvement of staff resources by moving the receptionist desk from the west entrance to the lobby adjacent to the Customer Service Area opened the opportunity for a more inviting, spacious and casual Main Lobby in keeping with concepts of transparent government.
The finishes for the fixtures of the Main Lobby are a contemporary representation of the importance and the organic nature of the river and petroleum to the existence of the City.
Steel and plastics represent the industrial systems and products made here. The colour palette for the reception desk and planters are a symbolic representation of the geology of this place in black (oil), sand (earth), and shades of blue (watercourses), capped by a grille of refinery piping in the iconic form of Blue Water Bridge. Decorative fountains and the extension of existing plantings complete the symbolic relationships to local water and flora.
The customer workstations in the adjacent Finance Area are integrated to also reflect these finishes.
